Formula is needed!
14 January 2007Dear Friends and Family
Some of you may have already heard of the possiblity that I could be travelling to Haiti. Well, the plans have been made. It seems that the Lord has worked out a way for me to go! I am told to plan on being ready around the first of February, (waiting on my Passport.) So, here is the letter that many of you have asked for, and with little time before I leave, I ask only that you read it right away.
My friend Minnie and I will be volunteering at Haiti Children’s Home for 2 months, holding babies, working with the children in the home and doing whatever we can for the benefit of God’s little ones. Currently, there are 8 babies under the age of 1 year in the Nursery, and many more children ages 1-5 who live at the orphanage as well as a few older children. Pat and Melinda, the women who run the home need help taking care of the babies. They just need lovin’ and English speaking care, as most of them will be adopted by American and Canadian families. (To see more about adoption, please visit their website www.haitichildren.net) I pray that all of these little children will find loving homes!
We have been asked to please bring as much Infant Formula in our suitcases as we possibly can - maximum weight will be 200 lbs. (Minnie and I will be able to each take two 50 lb suitcases.) Formula is very hard to get over there and with 8 babies, and more coming in all the time, they really need it. I am asking that if you have any way to donate Formula, (any brand), coupons for Formula or money to buy Formula, please contact me! The other things that I can take include; Baby Cereal, Rubber Pants/Diaper Covers and Plastic Bottle Liners. If you have any of these, let me know.
I ask for your prayers, as this will be a very new experience for me. I am told that Haiti is one of the most poverty stricken nations in the world. (Due to the mass harvesting of the forests, the mountainous land has become very hard to manage and their economy has become very poor.)
I will be bringing my digital camera, and will have access to the internet. I plan to keep a blog (web journal) while over there, so you will be able to see what’s going on! I will also write a letter when I return.
Thank you for your prayers and for all you can do to help these little ones,
Sincerely,
Mary Parrish
